‘Ople’s Shoes’ Distributed to Poor Bulacan Students by Volt Contreras

MANILA — Some of the poorest schoolchildren in Bulacan are wearing new shoes this Christmas, gifts in memory of a late statesman who, in his teenage years, could not afford to buy his own pair.
As they received their presents, the children were told of an anecdote in the life of the young Blas F. Ople, which took place years before this native Bulakeño became an esteemed man of letters, labor minister, senator and diplomat. Read more
